Aussie NSUers Association (OzNSUers), the North South University Alumni Association in Australia is proud to celebrate 14 years of fostering connection, support, and solidarity among its members. What began as a humble initiative in 2011 has blossomed into a thriving network of over 1,300 NSU alumni, united by shared experiences and a deep commitment to helping one another. Reflecting on the journey, the association team acknowledges the visionary efforts of its senior alumni members, who laid the foundation for this remarkable platform despite their busy lives in abroad. Their initiative created a space where NSU alumni arriving in Australia could find a sense of belonging and support - a home away from home. 

The Sunday 8 December morning started with Annual General Meeting of the association, where a new executive body was elected for 2025-2026. The former president Shams Maudood welcomed the new president Nahar A Disha and her team of executive board members for the next term.

The newly elected committee members are

• Tazim Tareque (vice president),
• Bushra Ahmed (secretary general),
• Tabassum Jalil Chowdhury (treasurer),
• Foisol Siddique (secretary, sports),
• Mehedi Reza (secretary, external affairs),
• Abeer Haruni (secretary, digital technology),
• Sameen Newaz (secretary, family engagement),
• Anika Ruksar (secretary, social and electronic media),
• Mahmuda Farin (secretary, community development),
• Mitul Haque (secretary, cultural),
• Zannatul Chowdhury (secretary, strategy and finance),
• Nigar Hossain (joint secretary, strategy and finance)
  and
• ASM Nafiur Nirjon (executive member) for the next term.

The election process was supervised by Fuad Muntasir who served as the Election Commissioner. The new president presented a farewell memento to the former president with a warm note of gratitude and appreciation.

The afternoon of the day was reserved for “Utshob by OzNSUers” that brought together NSU alumni and families to celebrate the community’s achievements and renew their collective commitment to future growth. The event was beautifully organised by the association’s executive team where the guests enjoyed a delicious entrée and lunch along with spectacular cultural performances by NSU Alumni members and their families. The event was sponsored by Australia Career Planner, who are a renowned educational and career consultant firm operating globally.

The event started with the hosts Tazim and Farin welcoming all guests to the event. Abeer played the national anthem of Bangladesh on a violin, and children of NSUers sang the Australian National Anthem live. Three magical dance performances were presented by Debzani and her team, Tabassum, Anika, Senjuti, Nigar, Ima and Nirjon. The band Rock Cassette, along with Bristee and Sarna entertained the audience with their mesmerising Bengali and English songs. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the cultural performances and participated in a virtual game ‘Kahoot’ hosted by Sameen to win exciting prizes. A highlighting moment of the event was a fashion show by the children which delighted the guests.

“Our senior brothers and sisters dreamed of a common platform for all NSUers, ensuring no one feels alone in this distant land. That dream has grown into a family of over 1,000, standing together to support both the Bangladeshi and Australian communities whenever there’s a need. We are deeply grateful for the unwavering encouragement and participation of our members at events like this. Your presence inspires us to dream even bigger and work harder for the benefit of our community,” said the executive committee members.

As the association looks to the future, it remains dedicated to strengthening ties among its members and making meaningful contributions to both the Bangladeshi diaspora and the broader Australian society.
